Not mine, but here’s one…
Which engines they are powered by? Honda GX120, GX160, GX200, or GX390?
Prokarts were based on the GX160 with GX120 valve springs.
Very normal and boring looking to me.
You could eat off these.
Having a lot of oversteer in faster corners compared to front runners. i suspect it’s pressure related, but hesitant to change pressures hot… in your opinion should i be changing pressures?
Does it oversteer from lap 1? Or does it get worse as the run goes on?
the oversteer seems to gets worse deeper into the run
Then I’d drop rear pressure a little bit. If the balance issue is getting worse as the tires get hotter, then a pressure adjustment could probably fix it. If it’s oversteering from lap one, or early in the run, then you’ve probably got some chassis adjustments to make.
thanks - going back to that gopro footage now
The last time we raced an enduro track (Sears Point) iin the KT100 class. Sit up Sprint. We ran tires half that size, maybe smaller, with 32 psi and we led the race until the last lap. Long story. Not winning had nothing to do with the tires.
Hello guys
I have a question about tire diagnoses.
Can we say in general terms that if the tire build up rubber in the inner edge of the tire it has too much negative camber? and the opposite as well, I mean, if the tire build up rubber in the outer edge of the tire it has too much positive camber?
Not necessarily. A tire will almost always build up unevenly on the inside shoulder, so it isn’t a cause for concern usually. Outside shoulder build-up could be a sign of that tire dragging or scrubbing excessively. I find that if I have too much caster I get outer edge build-up.
I think that’s mentioned in this thread, but I know at 213 posts it can get hard to sift through…
I would only worry about camber affecting tire wear if you see the inside shoulder wearing heavily, with almost no wear on the outer wear dots.
MG Reds. Struggling to keep them in good shape. Here’s the working outside front tyre after Qualifying and 3 heats (around 40 laps). Temp was 34 degrees C, high UV (11), coming in around 15.5psi hot. +3 camber.
Any tips? @tjkoyen @KartingIsLife
I use MG reds as well and this is exactly appearance I usually have in my front tires.
Could you give us more details about the engine you use, the weight of your class and the surface conditions of the track?
Additionally, we use lower pressure here (below 15psi), but it depends on a lot of different things.
I wonder if the fronts are simply being overworked? How are the rears?
Overworking the fronts in some form. 15.5 psi hot isn’t out the range, so kart probably has an understeer issue or the driver is sliding the fronts on entry.
I am not an expert but I am trying to apply the theory of our friend Col Fink of “Sliding , skidding or twisting” over this picture. As @tjkoyen said, it seems that this tire is overworking but as I couldn’t find build up in any of the edges of this tire, I would say it is twisting too much instead of sliding.
@Sam.m1e, did you feel the kart oversteering or understeering? It will help us in this exercise.
RR, a year ago from Whiteland Medium-Hard Axle
R60B Hoosier 2 Practices, Qualifying did 1 flying lap put it 2nd on the grid by a close margin, Pre-Final ran about 1/2 the 12 laps and pulled off from the lead. Then Final, finished 2nd about 12 laps.
So maybe, 25laps on tires. 18PSI, @460lbs haha
Also, worn edge is inside edge
