My FreeM shoes are in their 9th season and still don’t have holes. However the sole started to separate at the last event. Otherwise I’ve been super happy with them. My ORG and AStars shoes fell apart really quickly but the FreeM ones have been bulletproof.
I tried to snag a pair of those last year off your recommendation. Too narrow for my feet. Tried sizing up but then my toes were just free floating in the toe box.
I had the same experience with the freem. They are very durable and very well made but have a narrow toe box. While I have a narrow foot, I found the width across the toe knuckles a bit snug.
The Astars are ideal width for me and super comfy. The only issue is that they are all synthetic, which is preferable I suppose, but lacks that leather softness.
It appears that kangaroo leather is what is used these days in leather shoes as they are perhaps so plentiful as to be a pest in Aus?
i don’t see a lot of people here with OMP KS3s. Even walking around for 5-6 hours in them they don’t bother me or hurt my feet at all. Stiffer sole than i’ve seen with AStars.
I just wish a reputable manufacturer would come up with a set of shoes with a quick-release, cushy sole/tread type thing. Ideally something that doesn’t look like some run/walk orthopedic device.
I much prefer a thin sole on my driving shoes, but after a full day of getting pummeled in my kart, when I get home my feet hurt worse than anything. Race days can be pretty fast paced and I just can’t be bothered to change out of them, and I hate that “not ready” feeling if something unforeseen comes up.
Many years ago my brother showed up with some cheap walmart foam croc type things that he cut out everything but the toe, heel and the velcro strap that went over the top. I ended up doing the same thing and if you go up a couple sizes they fit over my driving shoes quite nicely and are quick to remove. They’ve since been misplaced since we’ve switched trailers a couple times, but they do sure help with foot fatigue and I missed having them this year. I did forgot a couple times and drove with them on
My current shoes have holes in the side - particularly moist during our southern hemisphere winter. So, time for an upgrade - the choice below (Alpinestars Tech-1 KX V3). I was keen to run with the new FIA [8877-2022] homologation standard. The same applies to kart suits, now labelled Grade 1 for sprint, and Grade 2 for road circuit, rather than the old “Level 2”. The Grade 1 suits are now available, albeit a limited choice. I’m keen on a Grade 2 (road circuit) in lieu of leathers, but haven’t found one yet.
I have had several iterations of Puma Cats and got my GF a pair of OMPs and decided I would try out a new set of OMPs for myself and I could not be happier.
I got a pair of OMP ONE EVO X R Rotor Lacing Shoes and they are hands down the most comfy pair of racing boots I’ve ever had on my Fred Flinstone feet (I am sure some think they’ve spotted Sasquatch footprints when I walk barefoot up here in the PNW).
I just recognize quality products after I get my hands on them. My gf is very particular about her shoes and she was in love with the boots I got her so I decided to treat myself and am glad I went the route I did.
