Navigating AIM Race Studio 2 vs Race Studio 3

Question - In regard to RS3 Analysis, I would like to be able use two separate computers to look at my data. Which files do I need to drag from the source computer to the other computer in order to keep them in sync?

I know for sure that I need to grab all the latest actual track data from "C:\AIM_SPORT\RaceStudio3\user\data", but what other directories do I need to sync in order to keep the basic app/layout/track settings consistent between the two?

The AiM cloud is great for profiles and data files. That will allow you to share across multiple computers. Custom segment maps and tracks would have to be exported and then imported on the new computer (moved with a USB drive, email, etc).

Thanks, for the reply Matt. I can see how the AiM cloud would be appealing for certain situations. I invested a chunk of time this evening figuring out how to get it all setup, and it was mostly successful apart from one track session that it refused to upload with the error message, “No Aim Cloud unloadable file(s) currently flagged.” – I have no idea why it doesn’t like this session, but hopefully it’s a one-off issue.

The Cloud only works with xrk files. Is it a drk by chance?

Keep in mind with a 25 hz sample rate at 88 fps (60mph) each sample is ~3.52 feet apart. At lower speeds the samples are significantly closer (you can do the maths :grin: ) While the location accuracy of the GPS may be ~1.5 feet, with enough satellites (the more satellites, the better the location solution) it is very unlikely that the ‘error’ between two sequential samples will be 1.5 feet. That number is more of a range, which usually means that 95% of the samples will fall within a circle 1.5 feet in diameter. I don’t know for sure but I would expect the plotted track in RS3 is a ‘best fit’ curve that fits the line to the GPS fixes. All that is to say that from one lap to another, the plotted laps in RS3 should be pretty accurate. You could get more accurate GPS using RTK units but none of us would want to pay the upcharge… :scream:

Hm. Not a drk, I had just imported them by right clicking in the UI. Decided to try and delete the sessions in question, then double click the xrk file itself. After that the session are now uploadable to the cloud. :+1:

It would be helpful if AIM would index these videos. There’s a ton of content, much of which I’m sure is useful, but it’s not at all optimized for speedy digestion. No one has time to grind through an hour of video each time a new topic is covered.

Pro tip - there are sites you can paste a Youtube url into, hit the copy button, and then paste into your favorite LLM (e.g,. ChatGPT) and get a summary of the entire thing. I frequently do this, both to avoid watching some things in their entirety, and at other times to see if it’s worth watching.

You would need a model that was trained for that. I’m sure someone has the alpha version of that in their basement at this point. :grin:

This is a good idea! Would still like for them to have timestamps to it’s easy to scroll through the highlights with the visual right there at the same time.

If you give Gemini a YouTube URL, you can chat about the video. I assume it has access to the transcript. That might save you a few more clicks.

I had another session where the rs3 Delta was totally different to rs2.

Rs3 was saying the laptime delta between fastest and next fastest laps was all in one corner

Rs2 said it was a spread over a number of corners.

But, I have a smartycam, so I was able to take the laps in question and carefully synchronise them and play them simultaneously on some different software.

That way you can visually measure how far ahead the fastest lap gets for every corner.

Rs3 was certainly incorrect. Rs2 was closer.

So, the next step is to upgrade to the mychron6. Maybe rs3 requires a better GPS than the old standard mychron 5…

Can you share the data file? [email protected] I’d like to see what is going on to see if it can be fixed. Also, what software did you use to synch the videos to determine what you thought was the correct comparison?

I made a quick screen recording - it’s the easiest way to show you - then you can see everything I’m up to here.

I think the solution will be a Mychron 6 or Mychron 5s. I’m running a standard 5 in this clip, but tried a 6 at the weekend which does seem way better.

You were working in distance mode, so any time you select an area of the track, it will go to that distance from S/F, not a time. If you swap to time mode, you would then see the difference in the kart position from S/F. I’m not sure how you figure the .2 is worth 3m, but it would show whatever distance was really there.

I can’t remember if it was in this thread that I pointed this out before, but the driven line is not used in time compare. It is the distance covered and speed, not where that distance is. The change in RS3 vs RS2 is that RS3 corrects lap distance variations locally versus across the entire lap (hence no more constant need for GPS Lap Inserts or shifting laps).

Split Reports are a great way to deep dive on this as you can see the difference in segment length, speed, time, and time vs. distance.
