You weren’t meant to see that. It’s 45% my kids pulling it down too. From what I understand it’s to do with a move to more environmentally friendly adhesives.
Thanks post before I go into the weekend.
Wife and kids for supporting this
@NSEWnoah (and Jason Eaddy) for helping polish a tired of an engine and meeting me with last minute parts I needed.
@Roger_Ruthhart at RIGP and EkartingNews for giving exposure to this silly idea.
Finch Gunther for help with the kart and helping me re-learn to drive.
Stockholm Karting Center for giving me a great deal on the many parts this kart needed.
@Alan_Dove for editing the clips I took for the RIGP tips video, making something coherent from them.

Can’t wait for this!!!
I have the axle at home if you still need it.
I’ve struck out with Kyla so that’s probably a good idea. Will you be out at SKC at all this week?
I was there this morning, probably not rest of week. I live in Maple Grove if you want to pick it up there.
is getting serious now… good luck! I’ll be watching for updates from the wilds of Northwest Ohio while getting our karts ready for the Clyde OH street race.
About 26 hrs before I leave and this is current status
Brake rotor is chipped badly and needs to be replaced. Suspect that happened when o pulled off with a broken chain.
Tried various combinations of carriers and rotors at the shop at Stockholm, no joy. The even had a complete Brake setup from parolin but the caliper and master bolt pattern was totally different.
So…. I went to my backup kart to see if I could make that rotor work after removing shims from the caliper. Well, it might have worked…. But I guess it had a micro crack somewhere and…
Typical to be honest….
Hoping Franklin Kart have something and if they do, hoping I can find a way to get it at, or before the rock.
Put a note out on the badger page. Surely there is someone heading down that has one
Rotors in a Jiffy. Hopefully it’s possible.
Great idea. Posted it now.
is it a floater or fixed? diameter and thickness? I think I have a IPK/Intrepid brake rotor laying around
I should have given dimensions huh?
It’s a floater. But I think I can make anything that’s 194mm OD work. The original rotor is 18.6 mm wide but there’s a 6mm spacer in the caliper halves I can remove to use something around 13mm i guess.
Franklin confirmed they have one and will send it down to the rock with an employee and buy it if I don’t find an alternative. Cost is $300 which I think is pretty typical… but if I can make something more economical work well I’ll go that route.
IPK one I have is about 190mm OD, 13mm thick, but I do have the caliper too. Caliper might need some love.
So today definitely sucked. Remember the plan was to turn laps? Yeah nope…. After moving the seat the entire day was spent on brakes between trying to source a rotor and then popping a piston out of the caliper while trying re-attach the backup cable.
So now we’re bleeding the brakes. OK no worries. It went exactly how you would I expect…
Actually, those pads need to be shimmed, badly. Holy hell those pads are soft. Guess I’ll have to hack up some pad shims.
(Fabricators close your eyes)
OK got those mounted. Let’s bleed some brakes. Ooof that 2.5mm Allen head on the cap is a bit dodgy… Survived that…. But even after bleeding, the brakes barely reach the rotor let alone clamp with good force. Rinse and repeat bleeding all over… no change… What the hell?
Long story short, seems like this system is sensitive to the pad return springs you put on it. If they’re too stiff, the auto adjustment doesn’t work. I had swapped springs for the ones on the wildkart which were stiffer. I thought it would be a good way to go with the handmade shims.
Apparently not.
Seems all used rotors are about 90/120 mins drive away, given that I’m in a serious time crunch (engine has yet to be remounted) I may opt for the $300 brand new option.
Go kart racing on a budget… The most expensive thing on the planet. Good luck, man! I hope you have fun! Enjoy the experience and dont focus too much on the hassles!
@KartingIsLife I’m going to Franklin this afternoon to drop my engine off and grab a few things. Anything you need?
Yep, 100%. The goal was to tell the story of what a $1000 kart can cost. So, yeah I think I’ll only tell it once . I think otherwise I would have cut my losses a few weeks ago…
I think I’m good, anything else at this point will blow the budget Porter is bringing to rotor for me and since I’m in a time crunch I’ll have to go with that.
