Ryan Norberg saves the day in Orlando (A rental karting review)

I found myself not using the full left side of the track on entry which I think was pretty important. The exit was pretty easy and fun!

For a rental that line is pretty much on the money. Little different in the KZ.

One of the little nuanced things I observed from some of the fast drivers and stressed with my son was when the track sweeps back and forth arrive at the turn in point just in time to minimize distance traveled. This turn at okc is a perfect example. The natural tendency is to setup early and take a wide sweeping arc around the kink prior to the hairpin. Whereas, you can cut down the distance traveled if you hug the inside and let the flow of the track carry you outside for the setup of the hairpin. Admittedly. Knowing when to brake is a little trickier given the angle of approach but overall a shorter distance.

I was amusing myself initially doing a line that looked more like your shifter line. Imagine using the line off the first box direct down to a V bottom with less setting up left

I see what you mean. I was having fun with the idea of how that felt. It’s an interesting swing to the left with a very brief and firm brake if you wanna straight line it. Lots of chatter and loading, very brief braking zone on left edge.
Middle is interesting and a very easy pass in that the faster line is basically pass me plz.

Oh,first lap, first heat….
My initial instinct was more middle

Cool video. When you weren’t goofing around you have some really good lines. One thing that may gain you a tenth or so is taking a narrower entry to the pit sweeper. The rentals are just not fast enough to need such a wide entry. Less distance traveled if you minimize the setup to the left.

Link to video of a single speed race at okc. Basically everyone runs a straight line from the exit of the turn 4 kink to the turn 5 hairpin braking zone.

Ooh I do miss that noise. X30 top end is so nice to listen to, also the way it crackles when you give maintenance throttle. It’s interesting to see how different the foot work is with the extra power, how your throttle is much less pinned to the floor. The gearing sounds great.

I will figure out which is turn 4 and study the footage! Thanks!

These are the turn numbers I use. Sorry for the crudeness, did it on my phone photo markup.

Intersting. I wonder why they say 3 and 4 are two different things.

Some number it differently, I have seen the t3-t4 kink labeled as t3 and the bend in the straight before t5 labeled as t4.
