Good runs by the way and you’re on the proper race lines. Probably braking a little bit early in some sections but overall, great job. Chasing that last second and then remaining 10ths takes the longest to accomplish ![]()
Thank you! Yeah I will need to shorten the track in some of those turns.
Andre had me trying to hold the kart more right coming out of the first turn past clubhouse straight, to be able to set up for exit of chicane onto start finish. Better late apex.
I also need to be tighter to the kerbing entering the sweeper in front of clubhouse.
In so far as braking goes, I was taking my best guess at start finish, then the loopy right with all the apron. The end of s/f is tempting to brake late but that wall is solid.
I’m watching a racer who goes by Trumpetmaster tear about in the OKC rental and speedy kart series. Looks like a reallly good series. Plenty of karts on track and the driving looks generally good.
They seem to do multi class races where the speedy karts and the rentals are racing at same time. This seems like excellent fun. The Speedies are the LMP cars and the rentals are the cup cars. The race I’m watching has them on the same layout I just lapped and he’s doing 1:08 approx. In the speedy I was doing 58ish, for comparison of speed.
I’d like to go race there. Seems like a terrific league and really good racing.
2026! It’s been a spell, OKC!
I am back in town and it appears the rentals open to the hordes of Sweats & Themepark refugees Tuesday at 3pm.
In usual Rebel Scum meets World fashion… confusion abounds. The website says that rentals begin at 3pm Tuesday but when you go to book some sessions, it directs you to…
RaceFacer!
Which, TBF, scared the crap outta me.
I had flashbacks pulling me back to a violently hot and stormy summer eve, helping Keith try to get the RaceFacer based throttle kill switches/modulator thingies working.
The karts were supposed to be able to be set to be controllable (rpm) from the tower and also to affect karts within a “zone” of a spun kart.
It was finicky at best and Keith, bless him and all of his endeavors, was losing his shit dealing with the developers over the phone.
If I am not mistaken, it’s a small team, operating from a small space above a retail space, somewhere in Eastern Europe.
So, there I am, trying to find the moment between suggestions emanating thunderously from Keith, soaking wet and being boiled alive, wondering WTF is going on, but really enjoying the East vs West communication meltdown.
This system drove me and David completely batshit trying to even just turn it off! It would randomly ghost slow you down if it sensed something in Seacacus, for example, and you’d get passed!
Also we did like to mess with folks
using that feature, or at least David did. He is subject to the temptation of holding the ultimate “what-if?” power when it came to his regular racers.
HOWEVER…
(It is at this point where I reveal that RaveFacer itself, while undoubtedly having many shortcomings, does an admirable job of delivering reliable Timing and CRM systems to a truly global network of facilities which includes OKC).
It’s therefore highly likely that the majority of the issues we had at GRX in our dealings with their stuff was all our fault. We, collectively, are dumb and subject to impulse control issues. Also this is what made GRX so amazing. The impulse control part. Also, the dumb bit too.
Ok so anyways I signed up for 9 heats on Tuesday stating at 1pm, more-or-less back-to-back.
Whether this proves to be a Fever dream inspired by a bad reservation provider or an actual, legit reservation remains to be seen…
The website states that rentals start at 3pm only on Tuesday. So, we shall see!
In the case of OKC, it seems to work great and hooked up with my GRX profile!
Monday Eve Update - Attempting to Muster the Muscle for Andretti
I can head out to Andretti Orlando when I’d like to, the schedule allows it. So I shall head out soon-ish.
It is not OKC, however, and thus I do not feel inclined to hurry, I will let it cook.
I have been to Andretti before, and it has many positives; the staff has always been great, for example.
The manager approached me to chat about my Google review, last visit. He was into the track and into karting, and enjoyed seeing a fast old guy from out of town, I suppose. He came out and raced with me unti only 3 laps into the session, duty called.
Oh well, thanks again! Maybe this time!
I have said many nice things about this facility on Google and KP. I also have a short that is being served up to curious holiday makers on YouTube, a lot. Somehow, the algo suddenly came to love me weaving my way through a patient, but also glacial, party of middle-aged ladies in go-karts. We all survived the experience, but with none-of-us the wiser, (or richer) for having lived it.
The karts are Bizkarts and the track is a fun, but now older 360design gladiator style ninja turtle thing. It is indoors karting, Electric, and slow as Heck.
The upside is that the track was crazy slick last I was there, and I had lots of fun figuring the icy surface out.
Even better, David, one of the employees marshalling was a lo206 racer himself, and he helped me find the pace there, that day, which was a lot of fun!
This being indoors karting and this being Florida, and with me being lazy and disinclined to move, I shall watch some of my old footage, as a refresher, before I head out.
The TV in this hotel room is pretty big so I should take advantage of that first, before I go, and wait for the sun to come down a bit further, so I don’t get eye-strain whilst in an Uber, on the way to Andretti, Indoor.
Obviously.![]()
(Update; I called and last laps are 10:45pm)
Ooh that was quite fun! A few thoughts about Andretti, are in order…
I eventually forced myself to go and did 9 sessions, arriving in the evemmk driving through to last heat around 10:40 or so.
The cost was quite reasonable. I got the 10 pack an it worked out to: $188.41 including my annual whatever fee, if any. Not bad at all!
What’s new:
- They redid some of the corners
- The surface is totally different.
- The tires are oddly grippy (for rentals) Hoosiers
More to come…
For food; It is generally best to look further afield and to utilize the power of crowdsourced reviews.
I had time to waste, waiting for the 3pm opening of OKC. I called another Lyft and went to the Dominican Republic. I feasted on this very good stuff, which was made by all our grandmothers.
I went to OKC and did a bunch of heats today from 3 to 5:30. I have nothing but good things to say!
In fact, I liked it so much I decided to change my flight. As luck would have it I found a flight at 8:40pm which works well because OKC opens at 1pm on Wednesday.
MCO is a stones throw from OKC, 25mins or so, which means I can get many heats in from 1 to 6pm! Yay!![]()

El Plan
Ok, so…
As it turns out the United App made me an offer I could not refuse, hidden amongst the offers was an 8:45PM Flight in 1st for only $210 extra, the decision was therefore made for me by the gods of chance.
Ironically… Had I been thoughtful about this I coulda booked some time doing a Norberg Acadeny day, U-Race, or with the fella I met running the karts who also works for some other team.!I say this because I got this text, unexpectedly…
The plan, however, will be to go today (Wednesday) at the earlier 1pm open. The objective is to squeeze as many heats as I can before I call for a Lyft to the Airport at 6pm.
For context, yesterday, Tuesday, I was able to get 6 heats in between 3pm and 5:30. The grand total was $302.
I was able to put down a modest 1:09.10 which is likely crap. I think the league gents my age are likely 1:08s? I presume the lighter folks are quicker than that.
The gentleman running my heats and I chatted and he tried to be helpful, giving me some very pointers, thank you!
I am still overdriving the bejesus and using too much brake, too soon, if it’s even needed at all.
But today is a new day and I think I can do 1:08.99!
FYI:
Mon: Closed! (lessons and stuff booked online etc)
Tues: 3pm
Weds: 1pm
Rebel Scum has Rebel Fun @ Orlando Karting Center & Everything was AWESOME!
I am sitting at airport awaiting my plane and I am wiped out! Today was a terrific day of karting at OKC, one that just sort of fell together!
Before I left for Orlando, I pinged David Hall, who had randomly said “Howdy” a while ago on an Andretti short of mine. It was a long shot and I didn’t hear back, alas. I wanted to ask if he wanted to get together and run some laps?
David is the young man who worked at Andretti last time I was here, and was instrumental in helping me understand what a quick times was and what what I needed to think about to get down to the big kid times.
When I went to Andretti on Monday night, David was nowhere to be seen, unsurprisingly. The current gang of young people working there confirmed that he had moved on. This new crew, however, took great care of me, and were terrific, helping me get fast laps in where possible.
imagine my surprise this afternoon when I get to OKC and a young man approaches me, hand extended. “You probably don’t remeber me, I David Hall and we met when I worked at Andretti.”
Lol! I explained that oddly enough, I had tried to ping him, and had been hoping to meet up, which was an amazing coincidence.
He was there to practice for the league in the league speed rental, in a private heat before me. He had time to join me after, and we did 5 or so heats together, which was great fun!
We were joined by pals of his from the league which was a hoot. New kart pals were made, which is sorta how this all happened in the first place, if you think about it… By meeting David in 2023 I had a great karting day with fun racers in 2026, as opposed to lapping alone at OKC, with no-one to chase!
On day 1, the best laptime I managed to put down was 1:09.10. I was hoping to do better, as the fella working that day informed me that one-oh-eights is what the adult league folks were running.
As it turns out, David was running 1:08s, which was a great help! Me at 1:09, and one of his pals at 1:10 chased David around, until we learned the error of our ways. Ultimately, I landed at 1:08.4x, which was a terrific result and I feel very pleased that I was able to get on-pace (ish). Thank you David!
I got 13 Heats in on Thursday
And 9 sessions on Wednesday!
Monday Night @ Andretti
I started the Orlando trip with 9 Heats at Andretti. The track was very different this time, in two main ways: Grip Level & Corner Re-design.
I have much to report, which I will, later.
I was at OKC about a month ago and thought it was really good. The karts were quick, the tires required good driving, and the track was fun. I also thought it was really reasonable price wise. Now I want to get back and race there. I only did 3 sessions in the middle of the day and did a 1:09.5, but there is a lot more out there.
It really is magnificent. Not in an AMP/Trackhouse way, and certainly not in a K1/Supercharged way.
This is a rare one, a place for racers, built and owned by a kart racer, staffed by racers, etc. Somehow they figured out how to embrace Kart Racing, both owner and rental, while still being, well, there. OKC is not what is being built and run these days. (Exception is GRX, but that’s because Keith and Andre are both racers cut from the same cloth).
More to come but about to take off in airplane.
OKC was is great. I was there in December. It was a little sketchy as I was in a double seater with my daughter mixed with single seater and it was night and day how fast the single seats were buzzing by. I had one single seats session and was in the 1.09s too. If anyone is in Orlando and needs a fix this is the place.
Hands down. Nothing else matters.
An Andretti Lap
Much has changed since my last visit.
The track was resurfaced and is now extremely grippy. You will notice that the tires are now very quiet as we are no longer having to force rotation on a glassy surface.
They redid a corner, making it less “big” which seem to make it “easier” to not be wide on.
The tires are now grippier Hoosiers. I wish I took a photo of the fronts… the most interesting wear pattern… hop induced understeer creates waves of rubber on the fronts. Interesting pattern which I have not seen before.
I edited this down to a few of the heats as, for the most part, not much happens! The track grip is such that you reach your peak time and kinda stay there. I ran 42.0 in each heat I had clear track, not improving over heat 1.
I did have one crazy moment, which involved an NPC code getting corrupted and malfunctioning on track:
It would appear that I was only .1 quicker on this new surface. Hmm. Perhaps I am no good! In any case it was great fun. Thank you to the employees who were very nice and helpful!

A cool turn.
I like this turn because it is visually wacky. The approach from the previous corner meanders in such a way that you are presented the corner at an angle to which you will ultimately align and brake for apex.
I’m not sure I’m doing it right, and the braking zone is bumpy as heck, but it is a fun corner and a great passing corner.
