Simracing Thread - 2020 Stay-at-Home Edition

I’m going to throw a selfish vote in for shorter races so I can squeeze them in.

I can hop in too. Let me know when.

Agreed James, I think I’ll try just an 8 lap race. This time I’ll make an online lobby vs championship style for invite only, then have the rest of the grid filled with AI. That’ll give a slow guy like me something to race against.

Lobby to hop on/hop off would be nice.

I was expecting a whooping on Sunday to be honest because I can barely control the cars with my controller.

I’m free all the time after 1 eastern time so any day works for me.

I’ll work on it tonight. I’m thinking like on open track day, run what you brung. I’ll see that’ll work.

Turned the Xbox on for the first time in years. It’s updating. But add me. HighSRT

If this is happening tonight let me know. I will pause from my KartKraft defense/offense.

The game lacks in controller feeling. No idea where the edge of grip is. Can’t tell if I’m sliding and the mini map looks like it was made In MS paint. Driving feels very arcade like In a way. This game might be good on a wheel but so far the only cars that feel driveable and fun are the slow ish cars. Also, I was wondering how the karts in this game compare to KK

I can’t compare it to KK but anytime I’ve taken a kart onto track in PC2, it’s for only 5mins. I use a wheel, to me Asseto Corsa feels much better. I think you mentioned you got PC2 for $15? Not a total waste.
We raced the KTM last weekend, It’s not to bad. With so many cars, I have yet to find my “go to car”.

The karts in pcars2 are not good at all. But the good stuff is in there. I personally love the formula cars but there’s many good ones.
The karts in kartkraft are apparently unique. Supposedly none of the other kart sims are as good.

Maybe it’s the wheel. The controllers vibrations really help with “feeling” the tires and PC2 only vibrates when you go in the grass or rumble strips. I am very fast with a controller I’m forza and f1 but pc2 eludes me. Man I really need a wheel. If anybody happens to have one they’re selling, lmk please

I wish I had one but my old one is dead. The Logitech g29 is a good wheel and isn’t too expensive. Keep an eye out on those sites for selling stuff like Craigslist.

Yeah, there are SOOOO many used affordable sim wheels on Facebook Marketplace and CL. If you can race karts, you can find a sim wheel.

Most cars in PC2 are undriveable without a wheel. The karts especially. The game is designed to be played with a wheel. When I got PC1 I didn’t have a wheel at the time and it was literally unplayable.

Anyone who is running iRacing regularly, what series are you participating in? Would be good to see who is out there if we want to do some test sessions or fun practice sessions.

I was doing GT3 with the AMG last year but I’m too rusty to drive that right now. I’ve been playing around with the GT4 Cayman and it’s a total blast. Really easy to drive, a lot like the Miata. I think that’ll be my go-to for road racing this season.

I also like to jump into a 305 or 360 sprint car race or a dirt midget race if the track is a good one. Those are especially fun with friends, as you can watch/spot/coach/heckle your buddies if they are in a different heat race than you.

I have an A road license and B dirt oval license, so anything in that range, or lower, I’d be willing to hop on and practice around with someone or get into some official races.

I am considering re-upping and going dirt sprint oval since I’ll never see that irl, most likely.

The thrustmaster t300rs seems like another good option. I spent HOURS yesterday looking on every single website that sells used stuff and found no great deals. Well I found a clubsport with pedals and wheels for $240 but it was sold. I think everyone has had the same idea during the quarantine and bought all the used wheels

I also don’t know what your budget is.
If you’re planning to spend $20,000, then $2000 is a great deal. If you’re planning to spend $2000, then $200 is a great deal.

That clubsport deal was a good one :grinning:

Fair point. Id say my budget is around $250. so pretty limited options right now. I could only dream of having a sizable budget
