The tighter line only works for defense, otherwise its just scrubbing speed on exit because of the extra steering angle. Looking at the videos, almost everyone followed the kart ahead trying to stay in the slipstream. Everyone got stuck in a train because there were no driving variations outside of mistakes, nobody really tried to do something different.
you can be more aggressive on the down shift. Itās seems the rear is sliding a little bit cause you donāt have so much front ? How do you like the Alfano 7 ?
The brake bias is 75% towards the front. More aggressive downshifting will make the rear more likely to slide on entry in my experience. Rear weight bias is 58.5%. Suggestions are welcome.
The alfano is great, easy to use, useful data.
Thereās a turn at Pitt I was wondering about that. At least in a rental it seemed not to be the case. The exit of it. One can only go so fast and at a certain point it feels like youād simply be lengthening travel.
Makes sense! Iāll keep that in mind! Thanks Brennan!
I took your advice through the esses and I feel like I am much more balanced and have more rhythm. I have still not tried the braking while full throttle method you use to rotate but I think Iāve made a big improvement through there. I was gaining on almost everyone apart from Andy and Laurence through there!
@tjkoyen My son got a hard lesson in just that this weekend! Some of his best driving since jumping to KA, but struggled with the pack.
H1 P12 to P20 didnāt defend at all at start and never figured out how to stop the bleeding.
H2 Did it all right and was wrecked from behind while P8 (penalty issued)
H3 Taken out by pissed off driver after aggressive defending early (penalty issued)
Final - Took himself out trying to move through the pack from starting at the back. Had moved up 12 spots. Saw the gap growing while he was fighting and got too aggressive. Ended up sending himself about 3 feet in the air and off the bowl turn at 50mph and literally burying the kart halfway through the chain link fence.

Tough break! Yeah in these strong KA fields you gotta get the elbows out and you gotta commit and use your head as much as possible, but those things can be hard when youāre getting booted around like a pinball.
The key I think is to fully commit to whatever move you go for. I think the most damage comes when you half-commit. Especially in those situations where you canāt get back in line.
Unfortunately I can sit here and armchair QB all I want, but the reality is, it just takes experience at this level to see gaps and figure out where the chaos will be and how to avoid it. After 20+ years Iām not usually the fastest, but I pride myself on getting through traffic and generally not losing spots at least. Itās a good/bad feeling to look through the results and see that you were slower than ten guys behind you but you still managed to get through them and hold them off somehow!
Itāll come with more races. Keep plugging away, have the boy internalize those lessons of where the gaps were and how they closed and what opportunities he may have taken or missed and how we can improve on all that week in and week out.
I donāt know whats wrong with meš i just love working on theese tiny 2 stroke x30sā¦ after a long 9hr day at school also i choose to study for technical engineer in highschool i come home and this is so relaxing some good music and just work on engines! Hope you guys enjoy this little timelapse of a full race prepp and inspection if a customers rented engine!
Just ran our Labor Day weekend race at Inde Motorsports Ranch. Here is the Saturday race. Three KZs going at it!
@Ethan_Bokeno and I finished 2nd and 3rd this weekend in another great field of 14 KA100 Masters at G&J Kartway. Unfortunately we only have video from Ethan for the weekend:
We had an off weekend at OVKA so we decided to go do something else and race at New Castle for KRA #13. Ethan and I hadnāt raced at New Castle since 2005, and it was nice to be back and try out one of the ānewerā configurations (#33) which uses parts of the oval and the āski jump.ā It was also our first time on the MG SH2 tires.
Video of Ethanās final:
@Bokeno_Racing Elliot, what did you guys think of the MGs? Is it different on the KA? I know it is MUCH different than the Hoosier on the 206.
Definitely much different to the Hoosier R70ās we run at OVKA. Much higher mid-corner grip (I can see how drivers end up 2-wheeling or grip-flipping on them), which makes you drive differently and run a different kart setup.
Ethan ran new MG tires for Qualy and I was running discards we pulled out of the trash after USPKS at MCC, and he maybe had a couple of tenths on me, though some of that could have been slightly different kart setups.
Itās much different but genuinely enjoyed the process of figuring them out. I definitely didnāt trust the amount of grip they had through the sweepers which hurt me in qualifying.
I went from full caster and narrow rear on the R70s, to no caster and wide rear on the MGs. If I had another day Iād throw in a harder axle. Already look looking an eccentric pill kit for more customization.
I wouldnāt trade the longevity of the R70s for anything, but another day on the MGs and Iād be comfortable with finding a baseline setup.
Why would you black flag anyone ?
To build character? Tell us where the naughty bit is because I was too distracted by the lovely orange, blue and lime livery. I see some guys living dangerously going 3 wide.
