Aha. Just noticed the benefit of the AstroTurf. No mud on the track.

@XanderClements I am interested in your propaganda and would like to sign up for your newsletter. Well done, Sir.

I hope y’all won’t mind if I repost this here from my Norberg Karting Academy thread. This is my heat race in the rain from last weekend at Orlando Kart Center. Some good overtakes and some sloppy ones too.

On-board from the final yesterday. I started 21st and ended up 13th. Track was really sticky and hot, but we had the Bestkart working well. The 9F wheels saved our bacon. From about halfway on, the kart started to get greasy, but everyone around me was worse off than I was, and at the end, I was one of the fastest karts on the track.

The kart was basically at baseline neutral all weekend, minus a few tests we did. All I really ended up with that was different from baseline was a bit of caster out and the steering slowed down. With the bumps and grip and high-speed, we just needed to tame the front a bit so it was so unsettled over all the bumps. The baseline setup we’ve developed for the kart is super versatile.

We need to get you a wind baffle/dead cat. We would hear engine better.

4:36 race 1 :smiling_face_with_sunglasses::high_voltage:Nice!

That was going well until someone lost 50-75 IQ points in the same spot.

@tjkoyen I got clenched up at 4:30 :open_mouth:

Same! :sweat_smile: I saw the move starting and thought I might get the kart in front and one more since it was so dirty off line, but then Szabo overcooked it a bit and I got a nice little 3-for-1.

Not super proud of that :sweat_smile:

Here’s a lap around Quaker in the KZ at masters weight, taken from Sunday’s morning warm up. Camera was slightly smudged so sorry the quality isn’t the greatest, but this was the session where the kart felt the most dialed in.

I thought that last turn was going to be an easy passing zone going into the weekend but it turned out to be anything but that. Not sure if it was because of how fast the right hander was before it or what but it was considerably more difficult to get a move done there than I thought it was going to be.

Another interesting observation was the fact that setup philosophy was all over the place this weekend. Due to the bumpy surface it seemed like people were tuning for how thier particular chassis and driver style was driving through the bumps vs. just for outright grip that there was in the track. There were a lot of guys going pretty soft on the karts to better handle the bumps and others going really stiff to handle the bumps. I shared my setup with a couple of other OTK guys who tried it out in practice and could not make it work and in turn I couldn’t make what they were using work for me either.

We are all Captain Haddock from time to time.

Seems like a pretty good field so a bit surprised you got tboned like that. May have just been the old accordion effect and the other fellow may have been along for the ride too.

Your charge from the back was impressive.

Race 2 was great to watch. Tanguy gets pushed off early on whilst up in the front group, and gets sent back. He methodically works his way back and catches those that did him a disservice, showing us who is il capo de tutti capos.

Talked about the race and track with Ollie yesterday. He made it sound tough in the KA. That looks brutal in the KZ. Like holding onto a bucking bronco.

Here’s Heat 2 from the Stars Event at Quaker City. Not my best result on the weekend with a 3rd place finish in this heat but good racing at the front and prob the most fun to watch of all my videos from the weekend.

Don’t know what gear you were on but damn, you had some mid-top power Andy! Good driving.

Unless my buddies were telling me fibs all 3 of us were on the same gear.

Mine was a dog out of the last hairpin though unless I was inch perfect with kart placement. I think the uphill factor and our weight was providing more draft for Masters guys too.

But yeah…that motor rolls out if you can keep it wound up. The funny part is the dyno sheet is not impressive until you look at power under the curve, I have a motor I tested on Friday that makes almost .5hp more at peak but falls off hard up top. I geared it different and it made just about the same lap time but was making time where I felt it wouldn’t lead to passing so this one was the one I ran.
