Yup. Chin mount. Is popular.

Will the visor still close and latch?
I’ll get one and run it in practice to see if there’s any fogging issues, it’s only like $12

Well if it doesn’t then no one can race with it and it would be a fairly useless product!

Sticky pad shouldn’t damage a stock clear coat but will be tough to get off.

Also note that many orgs are cracking down on helmet cams and many places don’t allow cams on the shell.

When I pulled one off my arai, it took the clear coat and the base white paint. Perhaps if one used heat to soften it all first and then gently used floss or something to get under and saw it off.

I think for @Chris_McCoy series, he is indifferent as to Gopro location.

Felt a lot more confident than in past races here. First season running in the points so practice was mainly getting seat time. First session was a bit worrysome as during transport a tie rod got loose and we didn’t notice until our safety check 3 minutes before the session started so kart was massively unbalanced until we came in and re laser aligned everything after session 1. Sessions 2,3,4 were just really just confident boosting and some minor adjustments. And yeah grip seemed to be the problem of the day for most. Nothing has been on track since November and it was also 40 in the morning so track temp was cold. Pretty sure the winds didn’t help the track warm up. It was weird as more ran off track in later sessions than in the morning. Tires also didn’t want to warm up took about 1.5 laps to really get them up to temp.

I don’t think anyone wants to watch a full hour long stint of nothing happening, so here’s my best from stint 1 and an overtake I’m proud of

This is a great story. Also a cameo appearance at 3:58, #469.

Karting is indeed the fountain of youth!

There was an interesting study done that I read about that suggested that we (men) are quite able to generate muscle mass well into our old age. The downside is that we lose it quickly as well as we age, if sedentary.

Nice pass. The outside was the inside then it flipped. Or something. The footage is pretty as well. Which track? It doesn’t look like the big race in Louisiana that I assumed you’d be officiating at. Are you 4-stroke army now?

I wonder wether aluminum rims would be good on cold and windy days on low grip tracks.

Slip-sliding away…

Here’s a little clip from weds night. I was able to get back from Florida early enough to hop in the car and make it to NJMP for a moist league race.

It was an odd racing surface. Big lake in T1 that we all tried to navigate and slippery conditions in the T2-3 chicane as well. In the finals, the moist turned to light rain and the track got progressively slicker.

Here’s a battle for 2nd that I lose. I could not figure out how to make it work in the wet and the guys ahead of me did a better job of dealing with it!

I was trying to find a dry line but maybe was too gentle on the tires. I was getting push on the fronts, regardless of how careful I was. Maybe next time I could play more with being forceful about getting the kart rotated, earlier, letting the back come around sooner and riding it out harder.

Save me @tankyx! I need your wet driving genius. Teach me the error of my ways, plz. (Full session below for those extremely bored and who want to watch me try T1 ten different ways).

This is heat 2 from my last World Formula race. Qualified 2nd (started 7th in this because the top 8 inverts) and finished this race in 3rd. Struggled with the braking for most of the day so it was difficult to stay with anyone through T7.

An eventful and extremely fun race

I had a really interesting enduro at NJMP on Sunday. I took the first heat and had to try to defend against a faster kart for the lead. I did what I could and held him off for thirty laps, but, ultimately, the other driver prevailed.

In Part 1 I realize that my lead is threatened and defend successfully. I regain the lead after he squeezed by and hold the lead for quite a few laps. In part 2, he passes me around lap 30 and then I do my damndest to get the position back.

While he has a hotter kart, I think I was a bit more efficient in the turns, resulting in his not being able to fully break away. We make our way around slower traffic as we battle, leading to some interesting moments and me, yet again, dumping a guy.

Ultimately, my race for 1st is ended by a one two punch of misfortune. As we are heading through traffic into 3, the kart immediately in front of me drops a wheel in a puddle, splashing water onto the apex and under my already turned fronts. Zing! Off I go, plow understeer into the grass.

While I waste little time getting back in the fight, in my haste I end up dumping the kart who moistened the track. It was not intentional at all. I end up serving a black flag, ending any hope I had of regaining first.

This was an excellent race and is probably a decent video too. Action packed with high drama. The other gentleman really enjoyed the battle as well, so win-win.

The slower karts maybe not so much, however. I fear we were a bit forceful in our chase and perhaps were a tad too assertive. We put some guys in big boy situations that they weren’t perhaps prepared for. With the exception of the unintentional pit maneuver, the rest was clean, though occasionally a bit rough.

Unfortunately my GoPro died after 38mins so I was not able to get all of my session, which means I can’t share some other fun moments with you. Despite the off and the black flag, I kept at it, and finished 2nd in my heat.

Nick made me extremely proud. He broke away in t3 of lap one of his session and held the lead the entire hour he drove, building up a significant lead.

He drove so well, calm, collected and consistent! He also had changing conditions as it started to rain and the track got greasier.

Nick does a Bonk

This actually worked out nicely for the guy that was spinning as Nicks contact pointed his (the spun fellow) kart back down the straight!

This was an excellent race and I am quite pleased with how it turned out, despite the mishaps. Enjoy!

By the way I got to kart 4 times this week: 2 days of 6 session visits to Andretti in Orlando, wet league race weds night and then the enduro on Sunday. I am a bit sore! :grinning:

What chin mount did you use? Is it removable? I’m looking for one for the 6 hours of New England

I’m gonna edit and add to this as I go through the videos
1 you were definitely getting more out of the kart. You left the door pretty wide open twice in the beginning but other than that it looks solid

2
At 1:12 you set yourself up for failure by trying to pass the slow guy from so far back. If you had taken a normal line you probably would’ve flown right by him on the exit.
Good squeeze at 0:59
Doesn’t look like you use all the track at 1:40, I also think you could afford to apex a touch earlier, and carry more speed in, as the following right hander looks like it’s easy full throttle.

Poor kart #1 :grimacing:

Bear in mind that I took lead pretty quickly and it seemed to me that I was alone up front. So, I was on the racing line, pounding out laps. I got a few tippy taps which made me aware that someone was back there eventually, but I covered apexes well and held him off from any serious attempt to get by.

It wasn’t until he started sticking his nose in that I became aware that I had a serious challenger. You see my line shift as I get defensive, narrowing entry etc.

Generally, it would appear (from what I observed chasing him when he passed me), that I was “faster” through the corners, generally, whereas his kart was quicker on corner exit/down straights.

My defense, therefore, was predicated around me being generally confident that I could outdrive him in the turns. I was taking my best guess as to when I could afford to take more normal line into corners, maximizing speed.

When you say “2” do you mean part 2 video?

If I am looking at right bit this is the exit of the helmet turn (5). Note that I enter 5 narrow to defend against the guy behind. This parks me on the dude ahead’s bumper.

I try to let momentum carry me by him wide on exit. As he tightens down to chicane left apex, I try to hold him left edge, while I occupy the faster line through chicane and block off rear. But then he zigs a bit right, trying to get over (I guess he did not want to be two off) and we touch. Not very sporting of me but also not unreasonable.

I don’t think I could have been cleaner here without some lift, and I had no time for that. The beauty of rentals is our cages and since I had the dominant position and was firmly planted, he was at risk more so than me. He would have to cede.

Sort of a dickish calculus, but I wanted to not get pipped and was hopeful that general chaos would complicate things for the guy on my tail. So, I gave little space and certainly did not lift to reposition.

This was also exactly where I dump that kart, later. In that scenario I am the one going down the inside and he would have been in my current position. You saw the end result of the outside guy turning back in to track edge with a guy under him. I think I gave him just enough room to stay on track while being wider and thus keeping the right edge untenable as a passing zone for dude behind me.

In retrospect if I had stayed a bit further right, rear guy may have tucked behind slower guy and been more thoroughly “pipped”.
