I cleaned up Proto1, gave it a good intensive crack check, and then threw it back in the jig to add a front bar tonight.
This isn’t actually the kart but I made the rack to carry two karts in the back of my f250. I just have to fold up a couple of small aluminum channels for the front wheels to sit in then bolt them to the front crossbar. The idea is you roll the first kart in the bed then insert the rear crossbar/rack lift the back of the kart on to that then lift the front of the kart and insert the front crossbar. Obviously it’s a two person operation.
Also I installed new chain and sprockets on both karts, gone down two teeth on both karts. Dropped two teeth on the back down to 12-80.
Aaaahh… That is sweet!!
Not a fan of these repairs. If this part wasn’t impossible to find, it would have hit the bin weeks ago
Next step I’ll coat the inside with ABS slurry and re-attach the mount piece in the back
Got to drive the fresh Dousman today. What an awesome change. No longer feels like you’re getting beat up the entire lap so it was really fun new ways to push and figure out the lap again. Glass smooth now and surprisingly good grip.
Also it was nice that I literally put my kart on a shelf without cleaning it or prepping it for storage 6 months ago, other than draining fuel, and it fired right up today without rebuilding the carb or tossing a spark plug in.
That’s pretty impressive, considering. Is there such a thing as Bondo for plastic?
Boom
Edit I stand corrected. Forgive me!
Never mind Dom, I was too eager to share that lol. Looks like it’s only for metal.
I’m currently 37k feet in the air and bored. KP and a few other sites are the only things that load lol.
Edit: Ok I think I redeemed myself, Bondo’s website states.
“Bondo® Bumper and Flexible Part Repair is an easy to use, two-part epoxy adhesive used to repair flexible parts, including interior plastic parts, dashboards and bumpers. This adhesive is ideal for smaller repairs to TPO, ABS, and many other types of plastics.”
Safe travels! Enjoy the trip.
I don’t think it would be wise to use a filler, it’s just an invite for cracking and flaking as plastic moves. Instead, what I think it a good option is to use ABS slurry.
Get some 1/8 inch thick ABS sheets from amazon and cut them in small squares
Put them in a jar
Add acetone
50 gr of ABS and 100ml of acetone
In 24 hours you get some gooey stuff you can layer on the back of the plastic. It welds to the existing plastic and creates a very strong bond
We do that in my nerd hobby… It works spectacularly.
Dropped my stuff off to the race team’s shop for transport out to Mooresville, NC. I’ll be flying out Thursday morning and can’t wait to get on track for Stars round 1. If anyone else plans to be out there come by the HMG pit and say hey!
What do you mean???
I had Clayton not Lindsay. You both run elaborate livery/suits and had a senior moment
I’ll add another moment. That is actually my kiddo. Lincoln
That can be fixed
