What did you do to your kart today?

Richard Johnston He drove a corvette as well in the Playboy Series

Think he raced the Z in 82 or 83’ when he got the car from Joel Anderson

I definitely remember the car from when it ran in the IMSA GTU class. That Brad Frisselle style bodywork looks so cool! So I watched the video; did you guys buy the car back from the Z-car garage owner?

No! I wish he did! They’ve emailed back and forth about the car. It’s had a lot of history I’m personally glad to see it’s still in its glory in that garage. We actually bought this Z almost 13 years ago and completely tore it down in the dreams of recreating my grandpas Z. Super cool you got to experience that time of racing the home videos I’ve seen are beautiful. (Laguna sure don’t look that pretty anymore)

I spoke with the owner of Z Car Garage when I started racing and he sent me some cool links about the car. It was a definitely a bigger part of Joel’s life being the original owner. We just had an undefeated 2 seasons!

Some amazing photos of the car at the Rolex reunion. I definitely need to go see it in person one day!

They just don’t make em like this anymore.

Oh, is that all? :+1:

It was an awesome time to be a teenager! I got to watch Frank Leary teaching (aka testing ) at SCCA Driver’s school in the Z he built for himself (the #48 Frog Line Racing car), but he hadn’t even put the frog lines on it yet at that point. Also, my sister’s boyfriend worked on the Tans Am team for Rob McFarland (owner of F.A.R Performance), so I got to hang out there a bit.

My family also got to work the first few years of the Monterey Hysterics… got to see Phil Hill ripping the 300SL around the REAL Laguna layout. That was a track before they neutered it. Exit the old T9, pin it over the hill, through T2 & through T3, breath it, or grab a gear depending on the car for T4, then pin it up to the corckscrew. God, I loved that original track… and not just because it was the first track I ever went to, and I won there a lot.

You’ve probably already seen this, but this is a show about the 1978 SCCA C Production Runoffs

Oh man I’ve heard some stories about the old Laguna I wish they still ran it that way man what a track super fast. That’s so cool I was obsessed with the trans am stuff growing up just some beasts of a car

I’ll have to dig up some of the pictures. Truly a sweet time of American racing

One of the many reasons I am a huge Warren fan… he’s always got some cool stories tucked away.

Started making some end plates for tire racks in my trailer. Need to get to the kart soon, as my son had some contact and some minor damage to sort out.

Jim,
Do you have CNC? (Not sure if correct term, computer that cuts metal like this). Nice setup if so.

I have a conventional milling machine and lathe that i own, the CNC belongs to my boss, i rmanage the machine shop for a trailer manufacturer, and my boss sponsors my son, so we have an agreement that as long as trailer related work is taken care of, i can use the CNC for racing parts.

For one reason or another, and partly because holy shit time flies, I’ve not driven a race kart since Covid hit. I got busy with a few other things mainly and just didn’t have the time.

So yesterday my CRG coach invited me to try a couple of karts, of course I went along. Jesus I’d forgotten the pull of a correctly geared x30, ohhh boy it was a blast around the twisty tightness of Yas Kartzone.

Also though, I did a couple of runs in a WF Briggs. I get the attraction there too, there’s no race series’ here because I think CRG has the only four in the region but man that thing was fun.

I’ll let people fill in the blanks here.

Slightly misjudging his reentry from time traveling back on his dyno to delete his ill-timed “Various Karts for Sale” post, James crashed into a folding table, rendering himself unconscious… but fortunately, not seriously injured.

It was pre practice tests day today for george’s iame super/ tony kart . We found the sweet spot from the carb settings an maybe a touch ritch at high revs .

The rpm meter kept a 15.000 high record rpms so we are fine from that . We loose 2 new spark plugs as we let the engine work to much on idle with a little bit rich set ups ,

but man that engine is great on midrange and low revs … so happy everything work clean and healthy . Cheers from greece .
