What did you do to your kart today?

I don’t buy the performance angle but I can certainly support the cleanliness! Chain oil is such a mess!

Having previously worked in the lubrication industry, I put very little stock in non ASTM tests. I saw way too many vendors develop non ASTM tests to make their product look good knowing full well the test was in no way indicative of real world behavior or performance.

This is why I wax… I also don’t remember to spray the chain ever. :joy:

Its actually really easy to do IMHO. The hardest part is the initial cleaning of the chain but I do that at work throughout the day.

I purchased my first new Chassis after years of used ones. I decided that I wanted to be the first to bend my own chassis! So, I’m in the process of turning money into noise.

Compared to his chain maintenance, it is a lot of work. Usually I spray his when the rust/dust build up on the chain guard turns it brown.

Speaking of chain lube, am I the only one that gets confused when people lube the outside of the chain\sprockets?

I just use brake cleaner to blast some dirt off, relube and send it down the road
Might explain a lot I guess

Jealousy GIF

sweet as a candy bar !!! a reAL joy to watch !

yep im jealous

I’m curious why you went with the IPK model since most of their race team seems to now be using the BirelArt version. Any insight?

Most of your footage involves… “James is sending it. Something is gonna break spectacularly and he’s gonna end up in the woods upside down”.

So perhaps accurate.

Sam, what’s the sticker on the nosecone? Iracing but double fisting lager?

Just received the high grip Kosmic steering wheel to replace the worn out cloth steering wheel on my son’s kart. Also recieved the PKT billet pedals to replace the bent stock pedals.

That’s the special edition blue CompKart they make every year or do you just have the CompKart wheel on there for no reason (if it’s the latter I hate you. No offense. [Joking of course])

“Two Drink Tuesday” - It’s our 6 year running Assetto Corsa League in which we race various mods in Assetto Corsa and just have fun. Two Drink Minimum. Have you ever seen 15 perfectly recreated staircase trucks take the corkscrew at Laguna Seca and somehow have amazing racing?!. It was created because at the time, I-Racing was hard to have fun with (Between the cost of various cars & tracks, “OMG MY SAFETY Rating!” and everyone acting like they were the next selectee for F1).

The discord has taken a life of it’s own over the years and is a community of it’s own lol. The league was created by a bunch of friends I autocross with, so I know many of the people in it and have made a lot more friends over the years.

Also, the Nassau Panel on the Italkart is going to get a redesign anyways since they sell it in white, to match what I did on my Tony-Kart =).

Reminds me of a GPL server I setup so I could drink and drive. Called it DrinkNStonedRacers

so, when do we start?

I’ve always been terrified of beading my tires, it’s always felt sketchy to me, and after reading stories of folks seriously injuring themselves doing it I resolved to figure whatever I needed to so that I could be far away from the rim and tire as I inflated it. I beaded 8 wheels today in fairly rapid fashion, and was never stressed. Below are some photos and links of the equipment as well as some links to get you started if you’re interested in rigging up your own system.

This is how far away I stand when I inflate the tires now. You can see that the second hose that connects to the air compressor has a tire inflator directly connected to it.

A better photo of the inflator that connects to the compressor. One thing that came as a total bonus with my new setup is that this inflator flows much more air than my old one since the whole instrument has 1/4 NPT connections, whereas my old one sneakily stuck a 1/8 connection for the last mile of it. It flows so much more that it actually takes a little getting used to.

The business end of the deal - it’s just a chuck that holds itself on real well. The fat thing with the air release behind the chuck is just to remove moisture from the air, but is not necessary for beading the tires.

Here’s a list of the stuff I bought to piece this together - there’s a lot of different choices available, but this can get your started:

  1. Tire Pressure Gauge with Inflator
  2. 3/8" X 25ft PVC Air Compressor Hose Kit With 17 Piece Air Tool and Air Compressor Accessories Kit
  3. Heavy Duty Open Flow Lock On Tire Chuck with Clip

A couple more things - to let air of out the tire once it’s beaded, I simply disconnect the hose from the compressor and press the inflator handle and the air is release from the tire with me still far away. Also, a wonky thing to understand from the beginning is that the pressure gauge on the inflator connected to the tank reflects the pressure of the compressor tank and not the tire. So have a separate gauge to take the pressure of the tire once you’ve beaded the tire and let some air out of it. Dish soap (or preferred concoction) liberally applied to the rim before you start inflating is still your friend. Finally, don’t forget to add a ratchet strap or similar type of thing around your tire either (photos don’t show mine).

Good work, I have a hose I rigged up in my trailer. I don’t use all the time but whenever I have a tire that doesn’t seat with a reasonable pressure it comes out. I use the regulator dial on the compressor to control flow. As soon as it pops I disconnect the hose at the compressor to release pressure. Usually this occurs at the beginning or end of the season when temps are low. Warming the tires helps but isn’t always an option.

Sam i see NC and Triad on that ramp…so i assume you race/practice at Trackhouse? Im holing to go there tomorrow to rent a cart. Still trying to decide if I want to get into this With a new kart.

When beading the tire, how much pressure do you end up at?

I recently beaded tires and they popped at between 35 PSI and 45 PSI. I had liberally applied the tire paste that Discount Tire uses

(75 Universal Mounting Paste | REMA TIP TOP)

that I got from Amazon.

Is that a safe PSI level?

That should be safe @HarjitS - MG tires for instance are rated to 58 psi. I don’t have a gauge on the ‘popper hose’ I’m using but based on how long I’m filling it I would guess somewhere in the range you describe.
