What did you do to your kart today?

Just agreeing with TJ. Slam that badboy level with the bottom of the frame rails.

Can you measure from the spine of the seat to the leading edge of the axle? Seats are all different shapes and sizes, but where your back can mostly remain constant from seat to seat.

I’m normally in the 130-150mm range. At your height I would aim closer to 130mm. Start there and before you mount sanity check against the seating chart I posted above.

It might feel goofy when you get back in the kart since you’ve been more upright and forward, but at your height it’s where you should be and still reach the controls comfortably.

Measured a little something like this. Sweep the tape measure to get the shortest distance while trying to look perpendicular to it. Also a good sanity check is that the front edge of most seats rest around the center to back of the frame rail.

I printed out a motivational quote to put on my son’s steering wheel for him to find when we unpack at the track this weekend.

Two Doritos per engine?

Yeah I knew it was way too high because I’ve read all the charts and watched mounting videos, but I had the track day the next day and I couldn’t find ANYTHING comfortable. So I just threw it up a little bit just to get out on track. But next time i’m working on the kart i’ll do it correctly and just get used to it

As someone who is 6’ I run my seats reclined further than flat. Being 6’ 2" you probably should be also, unless you’re one of those guys who is all legs. Your upper body is a huge lever on the kart and being too high will transfer weight too much and too quickly. Not to mention some aero issues on longer straights. I personally really liked the T9.5 seat I had which is more reclined, but I had to give it up as I hurt my ribs again. Now I have my deepseat but it’s reclined with the back edge flush with the frame rails and the front raised up about 10mm.

New parts arrived for my vortex rok engine .
Now i am ready to build the engine again …

Got my new KZ/Tony, did a good break in and ran some harder laps. Gearing and setup need work but the engine is a monster. Luckily there was a very knowledgeable carb guy to help me with the jetting, it was not drivable out of the box, way too rich. I’m a noob on these carbs.

Chassis has way too much front end, and the brakes are insanely touchy. Luckily I’m fairly certain I know what to do so it will be way closer to correct next outing. Overall it was a great shakedown day and I can’t wait to get it all dialed in.

Welcome to the dark side :dark_sunglasses:

You’ll learn there is no such thing as “too much brakes” in a shifter

Haha, nah this is too sensitive for me. I have a lot of experience in shifters, just new to otk. I will have it set to my liking quickly though.

I haven’t driven a Tony shifter in years, but I’ve never liked Tony brakes. Always felt so dull to me, but I’ve heard they’re much better with the soft pads.

Yeah these aren’t dull in any way. I think they’re gonna be fantastic once I get them adjusted properly.

Not something to my kart. But I went to my local Ace and for some reason they had 6oz triflow listed at $2.99. So I bought 12 cans. Could have bought more but that should last me at least 2 years.

I will try a 10mm recline. I haven’t remounted my seat yet because of work but I just got in my bulk shipment of parts and tires so I will be heading out soon.

Made a Delrin front bar for the shifter. Nice step between the softest otk bar and no bar.

Got the brat kid and partner in karting crime to help me get rough corner weights using bathroom scales (they were all within 1/2 lb of each other). Turns out I needed to add another 8 lbs of weight to the front of the kart to get close to 43%. …and yes, I’ve ordered a mounting bracket for the free weight.

Also made some changes to try and free up the kart based on input from the friendly folks at Margay.

Elkhart GP here we come!

Seems like Formal/Kremers usually ran the round chrome bar on the KZ.

Any room to move seat forward? That’s quite a bit of weight on the steering support. Will break it right off when you hit a curb at Elkhart.
