Cost-benefits limits my camera total. If i could afford more personnel, we’d have 10 camera angles or more at each track. Looks so cool zoomed in – way better than an overhead shot IMO.
As for drones I think they’re hit or miss. Karts are small. Put it too high and we look like ants. Put it too low and promoters worry about it dropping onto the driver’s heads. That’s the one big difference we have – for the super cool drone shots that the World of Outlaws and SRX Experience guys have done…if the drone fails it just falls on the roof of a car. If ours ever would and knocked a cadet kid on the side of the head…oof.
Couple of thoughts on drones. They could be placed trackside on the infield and outside of corners and set to hover a few feet above the track so they wouldn’t have a risk of impeding a race or the karts on track. Mine currently have about a 25 minute run time on a battery and will auto land in that spot in the event of a low battery or signal loss. Not a fleet of high end Mavic’s but a few at a $250 price point like Holystone 720e’s, 128gb SD cards and some post editing would yield some pretty awesome 4k footage for less than 2k in equipment for example. However, over a certain weight and they’d need to be registered with the FAA and they stipulate no commercial use so not sure if race coverage would fall under that restriction if posting footage for monetary gain. Content would more than likely be for free entertainment purposes only so no paid premium content. Just a thought and spit balling regarding the idea
I thought the footage from the Superkarts at the weekend was pretty decent, bar the static shots and odd directing. Dramatic finish too. I was standing a Craner when they all started flying off
