Meme: Don Westlie
To be fair, I just credited who posted it on my discord! Corrected!
50-50
Meme from Algex
In case you were wondering, a 50-50 is a skating trick, sorta a cornerstone to ledge/ramp/rail skating.
Hereâs a car variant that involves a 50-50 up a launch ramp:
Is this a reference to the dude at Kart Chaser announcing the recent ROK event?
Oh man, not a smart move (from a sponsorship standpoint) to piss off one of the Big 3: IAME- ROK- BRIGGS
I think itâs a major over reaction from the 206 crowd personally. Having just switched 4 stroke/2 stroke. I used to make fun of my lawnmower all the time.
What happened?
Getting called a lawnmower gets old
Agree with Lindsay. Silly overreaction. 4-strokes have always been âlawnmowersâ since eternity and 2-strokes are âweedwackersâ.
Lots of fuss over nothing. Although I would say itâs probably a bit in poor taste for the announcer to somewhat pejoratively call them lawnmowers in context. At a major event like Rok, Iâm sure the 206 guys already felt out of place.
I think that is the only reason they can be upset. The announcer probably should have made the comment. But he owned it and apologized. Move on.
Yeah, weâve always accepted the lawnmowers moniker. Itâs a nickname that fits and is funny. Iâve always just told my friends running 2 stroke that they can touch up the trimming with their weed whacker when Iâm done dropping the blade.
Though, big National style race should probably stay away from that convo since we are all trying to grow the sport.
Either way, overreaction. I had fun with that memes though
Edit: and I donât think 206 needs to be in every national series. It is a money grab due to popularity.
I donât know that thatâs entirely fair. It seems to have opened the door to owner karting for a lot of folks. It is fine for a series to ignore the class if thatâs not their focus, but it probably is the main avenue for new racers to dip their toes in owner karts.
I get Marco not running it since F-Series has always been a 125 series, but, I think the writing is on the wall. Heâs having lo206 run at his upstate track races (close to Canada with lots of lo).
I agree. 206 was meant to be an entry-level class. Other than a grab for entries, I donât think having it nationally alongside IAME/Rok programs makes sense philosophically.
That being said, I understand that lots of 206 guys probably want to race as much as possible and would enjoy having another option to go run at, so if the demand is there I guess the âentry-levelâ philosophy of the class doesnât matter.
Thatâs totally true, but a national-level series probably isnât the place we need to be bringing newbies who just got their first kart. Thatâs what club and regional racing is for.
Oh agreed. But the money grab makes sense because there is demand.
I think Lo206 needs its own National/international series. Letâs make it happen, Briggs.
Letâs find the worlds fastest karters on slow karts!
Thatâs basically what Cup Karts is, though because 206 is entry-level in nature, the level of talent is pretty widespread at CKNA. You have legit players but also relative newbies.
I agree with TJ, I think CKNA is filling that void for 206 on the National/ Regional Level (Quite sucessfully IMHO). Hence why that series seems to be growing at a very fast pace and expanding into new territory.
Iâve only run their regional stuff here in their South Division, but Iâd love to run at their national race when I get a chance.
Iâm done with 4 stroke stuff. But id like to see ckna to expand to the west coast.
Hmmm sounds like a series for me when I get my act together in which case.
CKNA is a great series. It definitely fills the market need for âNational Levelâ 206 events. By comparison to their âbig eventsâ, their regional series are still very small. There seems to be a unique buzz about the Grand Nationals that they were able to recreate at the Spring Nationals in Charlotte, but have yet to be able to recreate in the Divisional series. I think it will take time, but they still seem to be going the right direction!
I think CKNA is functionally a regional level series that puts on a couple national level events in the Winter Nationals, Spring Nationals, and Grand Nationals. CKNA North and South donât strike me as national level series, but when they put on their major races, if last years Grands is anything to go by, theyâre getting towards having a few true national events. If they wanted, they could probably string them together into a National Tour or something and actually give 206 guys a national series like they want.
I wouldnât consider CKNA North or South a national series on its own, though.
I view the CKNA South and North Divisions as regional, and the Grands as their national races. Maybe Iâm wrong but thats how Iâve always viewed them.
I just know in the South Division, we get entries from not only up and down the entire east coast, but alot of midwest and some west coast folks as well. On one of the calls I was on they discussed they are planning a possible extension into Tejas, and possibly (eventually) into Arizona. If that comes true (big if) but theyâd be pretty close to the southern California market at that point.
Anyways, sorry to derail this thread. Back to the funny memes!
