Pre-Race/Track Pump Up Jams

One of my main secrets when going racing .

The second one secret is that coffee hits better and harder if you prefer to take it from your local gas station and not from a traditional coffee shop !!! Check the writing on my coffee mug !!

Easter sunday is coming this week end here. .

Is this the same in the states ???

Yes! This is Easter Sunday and that also coincides with the Jewish holidays so good Friday/Easter weekend is a big deal. In fact markets were closed Friday, although I went in despite this (doh!).

I saw a nice American muscle car and thought of ya Stamatis…

One can debate extensively about the relative merits of coffee shop versus convenience store/gas station coffee.

I would offer that here in the states, the gas/convenience store coffee has traditionally been “drip”. Not super strong, but can get condensed as it evaporates over the course of the day… therefore the best drip coffees can be found in the places that take this seriously like 7-Eleven (sometimes) and Wawa.

The coffee shops opened us Americans up to espresso and other types. Unlike in Europe, we don’t typically take our morning coffee in espresso form. (I recall the delicious coffee we would get at the cafes/tobacconists in Paris in the morning, standing up at the counter.

The coffee revolution happened on the west coast (Seattle is famous for being the birthplace of Starbucks). It was crazy when I was in Washington state in the 90s… espresso stands everywhere.

One crazy cultural thing. As a French kid you took hot chocolate in a bowl for breakfast. Typically with a baguette, bread and jam to go with it. At a young age, you start switching over to coffee. Like really young. They also have an in between coffee for the kids (or used to) called chicoree. Or maybe that’s a thing leftover from war shortages like the old horse meat stores (Chevalrie).

On a side note… Dunkin Donuts used to be the quintessential American drip coffee brand. The first “chain” we had. Drip coffee and donuts. But they are sorta fancier now, they have to compete with Starbucks so they offer frou-frou coffees.

The donuts, however, got TOTALLY eclipsed by the amazing southern donut chain, Krispy Kreme. I dated a girl from Savanna, GA once, and when I went to visit her down there, the first thing she did was take me to get freshly baked donuts at the local Krispy Kreme. They were heavenly.

So @Stamatis125 tell me about Greek breakfasts…

Well.. thank you for the info and stories and photos you know i love that culture stuff !!
So thank you sir !!

Is this a Corvete Chevrolet ??? Is this 6.0 liters engine car ??? God …

Now lets look at our greek traditions for coffee and mornings snacks as years passed by here .

Coffee is a major thing in europe but here in my country is very very first think morning do it stuff.

In the 50s and the 60s and the 70s til the start of the 80s.

The basic coffee morning start was what the whole world called greek coffee ..

in fact turkey people has inveted it but you know how it goes. With beverages and people .. we all like to say that we find it first !!

Greek coffee , went and still goes excellent with some orange flavor cookies . We call it koulourakia . Or with a big rusk , we call it Paksimadi .

I can still remember my grandfather to do not talk to his wife at all before take at least a cup of his morning coffee .

Greek coffee is still in our houses. But more now like a traditional beverage and not an everyday thing .

But before we go to today …

The 80s fever hit us hard and the new thing that everyone drinked every morning and so long all day was the ice type and instand made coffee called frappé .

The most iconic brand here was nescafe frappe.

. Now if we see the roots of that beverage it was an army idea for the soldiers so they can make a strong coffee almost everywhere with just some water and a hand shaker .

But the flavor was good enough so the idea goes straight to civilians and became fashion !

Its was my first coffee that i was buying it in the cafeterias outside of home .

but when it was breakfast time with that i always like to drink it with 2 big slices of bread with some butter and hazelnut cream on them .

Frappe type coffee was loved in greece coz everyone had his secret way to shake it or bake it or milked or even put cahlua in it !! Witch is an alcohol drink with milk !!

So greek people love Frappe so much and the story with it as a people’s favorite. Goes till the late 90s. .

It was that decade that a new thing was born in the country coffee wise speaking .. and it is so powerfull that it still today the peoples favorite .

From then till now we have … freddo Espresso!!

A real greek idea for how to drink the Italian Espresso coffee ..

so the thing starts with the make of 2 Espresso cup hits , then put that amount in a big big cup then shake and hit it hard with iced water and ice. .. and. Voilà!!!

The invention of freddo Espresso . Or freddo cappuccino if you add some milk cream at the top .

Proper breakfast in greece it was never a peoples thing .

I love it but i am only enjoy it when we go for family vacations and we all eat it at the hotel before our days start .

The common thing now here is to take something to bite with your Espresso .

Croissant with cream or chocolate filling

Cheese pie we called. Tiropita or one of my favorite snaks with coffee is. Spinach pie !!

I love Spinach and as i said to my fellows here it gives me extra power like popay the sailor from cartoons !!

We have dunked donats here too and it was popular before 20 years or so .

. but. Now only a few has left in athens .. they are top flavor donats i love it and still visit them for a round of 3 of a kind !!

Breakfast around the world is one of my faves.

I like Central American breakfasts too. Rice and beans are highly underrated with eggs in the USA.

Can’t remember if I posted this before or not and this thread is too dang long to scroll looking for it. Recently went back down a rabbit hole finding this group again and what I’d call electro-metal. It’s perfect for workouts and keeping energy high.
