What did you do to your Kart Today? (2025 Edition)

Just some easy Sunday maintenance. This chassis is probably going up for sale. Ordering a new one soon.

Legit question here, not a dig (but definitely jealous). Why do you switch chassis so often? Just like fresh stuff? Always looking for something better? We all know you like clean stuff !

Switching chassis every few races is quite common, a brand new chassis will be faster than a 5-race used chassis. Not a very big difference unless the used chassis has been treated harshly (crashed, or raced in tracks where you have to heavily abuse kerbs), but every milisecond counts.

Yeah I just tend to get one every 6 months or so. Keep all the hardware stays fresh. I keep them nice enough I can sell them for a decent price before they lose value and for not much more I have all new kit. Also helps someone else out who maybe can’t afford all new. Last two I’ve sold on here to forum members I cut them a better deal. :slightly_smiling_face:

I’m fortunate enough I can afford the small hit constantly buying/selling. Keep my OCD happy too.

I spent this weekend assembling my son’s new kart. I got quite a bit done but I ran out of steam this afternoon when I realized I had 2 side pod brackets for the left side and no right side.

We die like real men!
For 60 dollars extra I’m putting a CBR engine on this thing.
I’ve done all the mechanic work and welding on my kart and that has held up better than what the previous owner’s team did to it.
Although I am scared shitless I also think it may turn out fine.

This gets debunked every month here and I feel like every month I share my story of back-to-backing a two-season used OTK to a brand new one out of the box with literally zero difference in feel or lap time.

Some karts might see a drop after a season but 5 races is nothing. I’ve discussed this concern with the factory and they said nothing to worry about on a kart that is at least a year old.

It depends on the tracks and the chassis. Maybe the differences are very small, a few miliseconds at most, but some people have a lot money to spend and chase after every milisecond.

Regardless if it makes a difference or not, it’s still common to switch chassis during the season, though, which is the point I was trying to make. I used to do all my races with 1 chassis per season anyways so I’ll take your word for it.

I just try to get in front of that conversation because it always leads down the road of “you need a new chassis every weekend to compete” which leads to “karting is too expensive”.

Not saying that was your train of thought.

Exactly. I’m doing it because I can. Not because I’ll be faster. It’s just nice to be on new tubes and hardware.

And, it’s nice to look good too! Aesthetics matter.

Just remember: “Fast, then pretty…” A Winner’s Trophy does wonders to make your kart look better.

Thanks for the kind words. Offering materials like our Karting Guide and simple classes like Intro to Karting at the Swap Meet, as well as doing Karting 101 to start the season really seem to help draw new members.

These were ALL brand new racers on Saturday coming out to OVKA for the first time, and we had a lot of our members turn out just to help the new people get off on the right foot.

With karting having such a steep learning curve, and people coming into it from different backgrounds, giving them a helping hand will hopefully make sure they have a good first season.
