the grattan TNT? Any advice for a first timer who’s never been to the event?
Access to the paddock is limited due to having to cross the track. They can give you a ride around the track in the morning. Stay off the pedals until you land the jump between t4 and t5.
ive seen a bunch of kart videos from there and it looks fantastic. This, and the june date are probably going to be my only chances to test a big track before mid ohio on Fathers Day Weekend
I have been restoring a mid-2000s OTK for the last couple of years. Most of the big ticket items are done. Got the throttle cable strung up and set today.
Will be changing pads soon and running fuel line. It’s amazing how many little tasks there are on cars and karts. You can get into a microcosm of every piece of equipment.
The more I clean the more things I find I can make better. I hope I can get it out on track in the Summer. You guys have some awesome karts. I like the figurines too. Who makes those?
Today I modified a bicycle brake cable for use as a throttle cable for my kart! Shipment of new throttle cables got delayed (second expensive expedited shipment in a row delayed cause UPS is ass), so I bought a variety pack of bicycle cables at Walmart. The bauble on the end was too big to fit on the throttle of my engine, so I ground it down using a harbor freight dremel tool with a ceramic wheel on it. Took me a couple tries to find the right wheel for the job and it definitely isn’t round anymore, but this is a huge win for me. I suck at wrenching and this is only my second time using a Dremel. I’m stoked. I’m gonna make one more in case this one snaps off. I just need it to hold for one practice day while UPS unfucks my shipment.
Brake cable is larger in diameter and would require a housing change but shifter cable is almost identical to throttle cable and as far as I can tell they are made the same way.
Ahhh ok. There were thicker cables in the pack I bought. I wasnt sure which was which. I have never worked on a bicycle.
Since the race was cancelled due to water on the track (and everywhere else!) I got my karting tools out and my wife helped me change the tires on our ZTR mower. That’s the first time I’ve worn out the tires on a mower!
I typically modify my throttle cable barrels using vice grips to gently hold the cable just below the barrel, then sparingly hold and rotate (simultaeneously) against a fine grit bench grinder stone. Sometimes I use bare hands so that I can feel how much heat is getting into it. In dire emergencies, I’ve added a weld bead to the end of a bare cable and ground that down, but I always view those as suspect… solder would likely be better.
Here’s a tutorial to make your own:
Well .. if this ain’t a real love letter to the past with a spirited by nascar go kart assembly ..
Then hands down i can’t do better than that .
And its a very small world.. oceans between us cannot make me blind .
Even with out internet in my early days . I know you guys exist and race with smile over there .
Have a happy Friday America .
Have a good weekend and enjoy the lemon pie!
I may add a McLaren MP4 theme to my kart…
But I want to modify the text a bit. I’ll use the Marlboro font, of course, but which of the following is best?
- Marlbarrow
- Marlburrow
- Marbled’oro
Or something else?
There’s a slim chance I’ll just run the cig company text for authenticity…the irony is I live in the town that’s the HQ for RJ Reynolds…lol Maybe I should do a CAMEL livery instead…
Ted .. jake design in great Britain is my all time favorite for custom decals. I know its far.from the states . . But its just my best oppinion

Thats awesome Stamatis! Do they call you Cole Trickle or Tom Cruise? Lol.
I’m surprised you don’t see more “themed” go karts out there, i think they look great. You see it some in the motorcycle world. One of my motorcycles is a BMW Boxercup 2005. They made like 500 for like a spec. race class. Its the M motorsport colors. Looks cool. She is my garage queen.
Good morning Lane . No unfortunately they call me " gringo " or uncle Sam or. Harry !! From the mechanic harry hog from the movie .
And yes we laugh at the pits and im enjoy it !
Woppaa, Tecno G10/Vortex VR95 now ready to hit the track and to be run in!
Turned out great!
Hopefully it will be as fast as it looks
@Ted_Hamilton thanks for the tutorial. I haven’t learned to solder yet. My nextdoor neighbor did try to solder my throttle cable when it first frayed (before I decided to try bike cables). The solder base wouldn’t adhere to the cable. He tried two different heat sources. Maybe both of em were the wrong temperature or the base was the wrong material.
Lmao!..were you born in Greece? I love the country. Ive been to Crete as well. I used to fly in the military…loadmaster C-130.
