Smol Racers Rule!!!
Final preparations for our 3 karts , weeks before our trackday .
Gonna be a loooong seat time and im love in it
Had the opportunity to try out the Blue Shock Race package at G&J Kartway yesterday. On its 40hp mode on Vega tires I was almost immediately running slightly faster than KA100 times on track, despite being ~430 lbs with me in it.
Drivability was great and it really rewards you for calming down your corner entries and settling the kart and then using the huge low end torque to launch out of the apexes.
Excited to see how the package develops from here.
nice looking kart! congrats!
Switched out my brake pads. Double checked my axle and made a list of what I need to work on in the coming weeks. Measured my kart dimensions and decided on a vehicle to transport it in.
1st pic is the chassis after tear down. 2nd pic is the engine after it was rebuilt. She’s an old girl but has no abuse. I think I drove 7 hours on it. Bought used with a few hours on the chassis. It ran on YHCs and didn’t get thrashed on curbs by me. Curious how long a typical OTK chassis lasts for you guys who compete often. I will be running MG FZ (yellow) on this.
Planning to gear it to 15,500rpm max for longevity. Should make a little more power than it did before.
Steering wheel cover is off. You know its getting serious…
The stock wheel being suede is going to kill me keeping it clean and nice looking. I’ll run this one for awhile to see how I like it. If not I’ll swap it out for the KG M6 or M7 wheel.
Gotta have a practice wheel and a RACE wheel obviously
Okay I’m weird, but not that weird.
Getting very close. Just waiting on the shift linkage and clutch cable to arrive and I’m printing an airbox mount and it’s pretty much ready to shakedown.
And this is my worry…at 330#, karts ‘dance’ and feel like they’re supposed to. At 430# they seem like dangerous tanks, regardless of torque. I’m curious to hear how it felt, handling-wise – was it lively, or just strong?
Well thats it . We are clear to take off . Everyrhing is ready and loaded for tomorrow trip.
We will catch up the first ferry on 6 o clock in the morning so i can take my coffee and set up the karts in the racetrack before 9 morning time .
This is a different trip . We are gonna go against the big boys because spata international racetrack is the nest of all the national teams tents this year .
We are ready for all . I can accept that i am not ready yet and make tje extra miles needed from that point ..
But maybe … we can do some serious damage on those brand new chassis national prepared and richer than us team drivers. ..
We will see where you are , because the clock never lies. ..
Now infront off me is the sleepless night . The same night that brings childhood joy in me and kept me dreaming with my eyes open .
Love you guys and dont forget .
We are really love the smell of the napalm in the morning !
Its fuel !!!
Thats poetry. Love the details
I actually ran across the scales at the end of a session and weighed in ~460 lbs. You definitely feel the extra weight (compared to my KA Master at 390 lbs) but with the big tube shifter kart chassis they definitely don’t feel like spaghetti. With rear brake only on the 40 HP model the braking zones become very long, which actually opens up a lot of racing opportunity.
The overall feel of the kart tries to entice you to “overdrive” it and wring it’s neck and use the infinite torque to burn the rear tires off, but lap time rewards keeping it calm and stable in the mid corner and rolling the throttle in to hook up and launch. Definitely a mindset shift from how I drive the KA, but even with the weight I wouldn’t call it “lazy”
Good luck Gringo! lol. Have fun be safe! Apocalypse now, I love that movie…i dont knoe the other movie quotes. Robert duvall is one of the best…and great in Days of Thunder! As you know!
Have fun!!! Sounds like an awesome trip.
Well i dont really know how to write down this report after our first step on a national level .
At first i am sore and happy as i am handling my pencil but not so much as the previus times that we had our trackdays on a lower division racetracks .
So the feeling about the big and wider racetrack from my eyes is that it is easier on my body .
We left george behind with our big gun the iame 175cc so our trip was me and nick and we are both riding 125cc engines somekind older that the grid we had to compete with .
