Autocross Saturday, do it again on Sunday. I had a co-driver this time which allowed me to enjoy some heat in the tires. On my quick run I absolutely blew the final sweeper but recovered. Can now confirm, I really like this chassis.
Watched the you tube one and that was a nice way to ride off into the sunset. That looks like a ton of fun, banging gears. Also, looks tiring!
Added another engine to the stable (left), and got the other KZ rebuilt by Harden Motorsports Group this weekend. Weather is looking good tomorrow, so I’m hoping I’ll be able to sneak out and break in at least one if not both motors tomorrow afternoon
Wasn’t able to break free and get on track today, but I did get everything assembled on the kart and did a heat cycle on the SRP engine. Good to hear some braaaap and smell a two stroke again!
Cleaned up brake system, double checked fittings and then bleed out the brakes and made final adjustments.
This weekend it was warm enough in the garage to tackle the axle replacement. Easy enough for the experts but an anxious task to undertake for the first time for me. That is what held me back last season, he was winning so I did not want to fix it if it was not broken. Well it needs “fixin” for sure. The left rear bearing was rough and gritty and the lube ring looked like it had some rotational wear. The right side was fine and still smoothly rotating with no wear on the lube ring.
It appears that the axle is still straight but I am going to replace it anyway and keep the old one as a backup. Removing the wheel hubs was easy but the brake hub and sprocket had me using my bastard to smooth up the axle so I could gently tap them off. My right rear hub has a gnarly stud so I will keep it as a spare and I ordered a new one along with a couple of lubrication rings. I tried to mount a free float sprocket hub but I cannot get the keyway to line up with the clutch gear so I am going back to the old one with the rubber chain guard, it works as we never lost a chain and it lines up fine. I am going to fix both bearings to the axle.
I have read where some folks prefer to leave one free to float but my kart bible says use both set screws. After 10 hours away from home each day I don’t have any energy during the week to work the wrenches but one more warm weekend and the axle will be bolted back in if my parts get here this week. Still need to clean and maintain the Bully, ultrasound wash the chain, and change the motor oil, then the back end will be finished. On to the front, saying a quiet prayer to the camber & toe gods. Still need to mount the new body, and scale the bugger, whew this kart work never ends.
Nick has given a little love to his rotax max exhaust .
Change the tail pipe matting too ,
On the other kart . We had some failure on the engine bases bolts. So engine out and new base , the correct one this time and new bolts coming in …
We kicked mom’s car out of the garage to get my son’s kart scaled. Pray it doesn’t snow in Indiana anymore this year so we don’t get in trouble.
Trueing the crankshaft on our rotax max rebuild engine . The specs says 0.03mm limit for error .
We start at plus 0.05 and we reach 0.02 mm after correction .
It was that moment i knew i had to use my favorite expression i have learned in kartpulse …
" Its 0.02mm now ... Ok SEND IT !! "
and as Josh Hanrahan " Aim Sports Tech " said in the documentary become one.
" Its impressive because there is no suspension or anything else but there is So much TOO IT , that you dont see when you just watch them as they are going around on the racetrack . "
Post race tear down and clean. Going to a new home. I’m sold on the chassis and getting a new roller
Started listing all my parts from my Tony-Kart for sale. It was a good upgrade from my very old intrepid and I learned a lot about setup over the years but it was bent, scraped up and it’s handling was evil and hilariously variable. So, I pressure washed it after stripping it and am now deciding what to do with it (No, it’s not for sale, I wouldn’t wish this evil chassis on anyone).
sigh…I really need a TM in my life to compliment my ROK. Every time I drive my friends K9B (which has been worked over nicely) the want is so strong.
Garden trellis for hippie tomatoes.
My wife said I should keep it on the wall in the garage as during the winter I could put lights on it and have a Christmas tree
