The baby Jesus OTK nativity scene…
There, fixed that for you.
Yea, the main reason I got a ROK was because it was included with the kart and in my view, it was a serious upgrade for the CR125 I was running. For SCCA SOLO, it’s a good matchup between a ROK shifter and well sorted KZ given minimum weight differences and how busy you are on course (The dominate engine is very course dependent, and remember, the course changes every single time) so I’ve been in no rush to upgrade. Except for when I’m at 14K RPM driving a TM. Then I want to upgrade. A lot.
I could see the Rok being as quick on that type of circuit, as it has better bottom end than the KZ.
From my admittedly narrow viewpoint: The ROK is far more forgiving and easier to push at the limit consistently. The TM’s are far more rewarding when you do get it right and manage to keep it at the limit. With that being said, at SOLO National Championships, my best results came on a TM. So at this point for me specifically it’s a wash. Which means I just need go ahead and just buy a damned TM.
You could buy one of the Rok KZ upgrade kits that are sold. Jetting is much more critical in a KZ versus the Rok.
Finally got the motor and exhaust on the kart and got the pills on the kingpin per Shawn Bayliff at MCC’s recommendations - adding caster and camber. Since one of Shawn’s merry men had straighten the frame after a schlomozzle (H/T to David Hobbs, sports car racer and broadcaster for the term) at the Elkhart street race I’ll be taking it to have the alignment set when the track opens in a few weeks. It’ll be interesting to see how the kart handles after all the changes and straightening.
Put the KG507 panel and brackets onto my OTK. Saved close to a pound between the lighter panel and titanium upper brackets. Should also be slightly more aerodynamically efficient for my 6’2” self. Only issue is that my toes hit the sides of the panel when depressing them all the way. So that’s annoying haha. I’m going to give it a shot at least one track day and go from there.
Tony -iame kart general maintenance is done ,
We are starting tonight the work on kosmic /vortex .its after practice wrenching jobs but im also too off on squish measurements so its gonna be engine prep too …
The third chassis is on cleaning phase and almost ready to live her second life with us .
Good evening mates !
Carb Friday, checked the new Tryton HB27 I got for the old 100cc machines I have. More reliable with jetting than the Baronis etc
Maintenance on vortex rok engine had some bad news , I knew i was way off in squish but as we work we found that we had wrong size piston but in good shape atlist so we need the one size bigger .
Wall tolerance in 0.11mm on those engines .
Clutch assembly is on a bad shape and maybe its not alive enough to make it one more track day . Its the old type of clutch system . Had worn pads , had one spring thats from something else and not original and also the pins and sadety clips that hold the shoes on it has started to seek to destruction.
Cilinder head had some scars from the napoleon wars it has seen but with some love is still usable
I am thinking i will upgrade to the new type clutch . Its almost double the money but its worth it . They are much better .
The cylinder is in good shape and measurements was good . I will work with some parts i have in the garage and waiting for next months payroll to order the new goodies i want .
Assembled a practice engine from a shortblock. I also assembled the small stuff on the Lawson engine. I then disassembled the side cover as the new powdercoated covers (to match the practice engine) should be coming back for both race engines this week. Also, got a good laugh at the stewart pull starter, its not a stewart engine.
Love the garage and the darts man !
What’s the yellow car in the background?
Refreshing brakes sunday today .
We have seen a noticed improvement on the pedal feel when we clean all the circuit and using silicone dot 5.1 i think is the number brake fluids versus the standart brake fluids . The o rings in the brake pump was also a little worn so change them too .
The second photo our friend jimmy continues the upgrade to the bad from the box semi automatic stand i got 2 months earlier and everyone in the garage jokes about it …
Doran JE-4 ShowCar with late bodywork on it. (I worked/work for Kevin Doran and I am best friends with Jason Doran, He also races karts in the OVKA420cc class)
Speaking of which I worked on my kart that I have used to run 420cc, I ran it for a season in Briggs 206 (Pretty sucessfully for a Shifter Chassis) but now I have to put the front brakes back on and put the big boy alignment on it. Since, I will dominate the class if I run at the already high weight of 460# I am going to run at Jason’s weight which will put the kart somewhere in the 305# range (520lbs total weight) with all the 105lbs of lead I am going to have to hang on it.
