What did you do to your kart today?

Definitely black plastics are my favorite now

Birel/Freeline is finally doing their sidepods in black! I just really don’t like the look of the KG sidepods with the extra little bump out they have.

Thank you, I must’ve taken that picture before I drilled a hole on the cap. She runs beautifully though!

Letting my OCD get the better of me. Taking way too long to mount a seat :upside_down_face:

Not really today, but yesterday….

If anyone wants to know how to get to the outside wall in T1 at MCC, I know exactly where it’s at.

Spindle, king pin, steering shaft, tie rod, axle, sprocket hub, sprocket, chain

I’ve always found when i mount my OTK seat with the flat part of the seat level, that i’m leaning way too far back to be comfortable. Idk if that’s just me, but I have to put a wedge propped up under the rear so I can sit a little more vertically.

How tall are you? I have heard the same from a few “less tall” drivers.

I’m not a very tall guy 5’9” or so. Always run my seats flat even in my OTKs. I do like to be stretched out in the kart. If anything I’ll make sure they are reclined a bit. In my experience you never want them with the front edge of the flat spot down. If the seat does strike the track/curb it’s more likely to blow out the leading edge.

I’m in the 6’1/6’2 area

That’s why I take mine up about 1/4”. Front edge of my seat is usually just barely above the bottom of the frame. And the rear is about 3/4 inch elevated. Not sure if that negatively affects lap time but makes me a lot more comfortable

Then you should have that bad boy as far back as you can or a tad reclined for the most part. Next time you’re in the kart take a photo from the side so we can take a look. Might be something in the pedals or steering wheel that is making you feel off.

If this picture doesn’t work I can get one after work at a better angle.

You look pretty scrunched. Which at your height is gonna be hard to get away from. I think you need to recline the seat to get your CG lower. Can you get your pedals any further away? Or I’m guessing at your height they are against the front frame rail?

I’ll have to find a better side shot, but if you can expand your arms a bit it might help with pushing against the wheel. Do you find yourself bicep driving?

When I wrap up the seat mounting I’ll take a decent side shot. All of the above is just my opinion might want to get another expert or tall guy to chime in. Again I’m not that tall, but I would still like additional room, but I found a sweet spot in seat location and I can’t really get the wheel or pedals any further away.

Pedals are as far back as they’ll go yes. I don’t like to get my seat too far back horizontally because I feel like I don’t have enough front end. So If I put my seat closer to the front AND lower it, my knees are hitting my hands.

I’ve found that raising the seat I’m able to get my hands a little higher and not hit my knees on the wheel. I am definitely struggling with finding a balance there.

Is lower CG more important than lateral weight bias?

6ft i think counts for tall in karting. I spent the last year or so really working on the positioning.

Got comfortable with angled steering hub and playing around with the foot rest

What do you mean by angled steering hub? And did you get one of those extended pedal mounts?

Just a shim in between the steering wheel and hub.

And No just the standard otk pedal setup. I did experiment with flipping the footrest backwards but I don’t mind having my knees up a bit like in my picture

What’s your recommendation on which hub to get? And do you by chance know the dimensions of your seat. I might try out ur seat setup since we are similar in height.

In your case I would say so. KA doesn’t make a ton of power so keeping it free helps. With your more upright position and shoulders so high you’re going to be transferring alot of weight to the outside rear tire and working the kart hard (really flexing the frame).

Good starting point. Curious where your seat is in relation to this. At your height you might benefit from mounting the seat just under the frame rails, but you risk blowing out the bottom and seats aren’t cheap.
