We get a lot of video requests and submissions at KartPulse, most don’t make the cut*. We WANT to share your stuff and want to see more great videos of karting…
So, here’s 5 reasons people are probably tuning out of your karting video.
Discuss\Dissect\Add your input below…
1) Intro is too freakin’ long
People have short attention spans, especially on social media, make them wait, they skip to the next vid.
90 seconds of you sitting on the grid with nothing going on = your video skipped
Long ass drawn out intro with text or logos = fail.
I hear you say “but they can jump ahead”
Yes, they can, but they wont.
2) It’s too freakin’ long
Again, people have a short attention span. I’d say for Facebook keep it under 90seconds, youtube you can go a little longer.
3) It’s freakin’ boring
Killer > Filler
Remember the video has to be about something of interest to the viewer, not about you. 25mins of you driving around in the lead of a race = snoozefest for people watching.
Being aggressive about editing out a bunch of clips to make it shorter rarely hurts things.
4) The video quality is freakin’ terrible
Yes, you can get a HD camera for less than a clapped out clone motor, but stability is crucial. Make sure your shots are stable. If you don’t have a tripod, get one. They are like $30 at Walmart.
5) The freakin’ sound is Nasty
Sound is arguably more important than video (Ironic eh?). This is especially true for interviews\speech. So don’t overlook the importance of capturing good sound, and if you DO have good sound, don’t butcher it with loud music. Ain’t nobody got time for that.
I hear you say, "OK Smartass… what should I do then…?"
Keep it short, to the point and as action packed as you can. Think of it as a highlight reel.
You don’t need fancy cuts, fades and transitions or funky effects. Sure, they are cool but they are things that augment an already great video. They won’t make a video that touches on any of these sins above any better.
*Yes that pun was intended and just too obvious to leave on the table.
